How Stickers and GIFs Work in Your Telegram Group Chats

You turned on stickers and GIFs for one of your groups, waited, and... got another paragraph of text. Nothing is broken. Stickers are a small, deliberately occasional extra β€” they are not the assistant's normal way of answering.

This guide explains exactly what the setting does, when a sticker or GIF can appear, when it never will, and how to switch it on.

It Replaces the Assistant's Own Reply

When the feature is on, your assistant can answer a short, social moment with a sticker or GIF instead of its own text reply. That is the whole trick: the assistant's answer is swapped for a visual one.

It is not a Telegram reaction. It does not attach an emoji to your message, and it does not send a separate acknowledgement next to an answer. If you were hoping for an emoji reaction on your own message, this setting is not what does that.

When a Sticker Can Appear

Only replies that are short and made up entirely of social wording are eligible. In practice that means moments like:

  • Celebration β€” a congratulations or a "well done".
  • Humour β€” a laugh or a playful one-liner.
  • Thanks β€” a quick "thank you" or "you're welcome".
  • Greeting β€” a hello or a welcome.
  • Affection β€” a warm or affectionate line.

If the assistant wants to add an explanation, a caveat, or a follow-up question, the moment no longer fits and it answers with text instead.

When It Always Stays Text

Some answers are never replaced by a sticker or GIF. They always arrive as text:

  • factual, technical, or instructional answers;
  • questions the assistant asks you;
  • long replies;
  • links;
  • error or fallback messages.

Voice replies also take priority. If the group has voice replies on and your assistant delivers a voice note, no sticker is used for that reply.

Why It Feels Rare β€” and That's on Purpose

The assistant is deliberately restrained. Per group, it will send at most four stickers or GIFs in a rolling 24 hours, with at least about 90 minutes between them, and never on two of its own replies in a row β€” at least one text or voice reply has to come in between.

Those limits are there so a group never turns into a stream of stickers. The practical result is that most messages still get a normal text answer. Getting text instead of a sticker does not mean the feature failed, and nothing was lost β€” the assistant simply answered normally.

You Can't Request a Sticker

There is no command or phrase that makes a sticker appear. The assistant alone decides whether the moment fits; the only control you have is allowing or disallowing the feature for a group.

Asking it to "reply only with: Gracias!" will normally still get its usual, chattier answer.

Personality Changes How Often It Happens

Personality has a bigger effect here than you might expect. A chatty or joke-heavy personality β€” the Dad Jokes persona is the obvious example β€” pads its replies with extra words and usually a closing question. That makes the reply almost never purely social, so stickers stay rare.

A concise personality does the opposite: its replies stay short and social more often, so stickers become noticeably more likely. This is expected behaviour, not a bug in either personality.

What It Does Not Change

Turning stickers and GIFs on does not change how often the assistant decides to answer. It does not affect @mention rules or your group participation mode. It only changes the format of a reply that was already going to happen.

Get Agent One β€” then add it to a group and choose whether stickers belong there.

How to Turn It On

The control lives with the other per-group settings. It is off by default, and it is set separately for each group.

Step 1

Open the mini app. In the group, type /settings and open the Agent One mini app.

Step 2

Pick the group. Choose the group you want to change from the Groups list.

Step 3

Toggle "Occasional contextual stickers/GIFs". Leave it off to keep text only, or turn it on to let the assistant occasionally answer a short, social moment with a sticker or GIF.

If the option is unavailable, it usually means no approved stickers or GIFs are configured for that assistant yet. In that case the setting shows a short "not available yet" note instead of quietly doing nothing.

The Short Version

Stickers and GIFs are optional, per group, and deliberately rare. When the assistant's own reply is short and purely social, it may send a sticker or GIF instead of text. Everything else stays text, voice replies take priority, and most messages still get a normal answer β€” getting text instead of a sticker is normal, not a failure.
